Meet the baby who miraculously survived 12-hour surgery, 6 heart attacks

New Delhi: A baby born with a major heart defect that required a 12-hour long surgery miraculously survived the procedure, overcoming the odds considering her medical conditions.
Not only that, she also suffered six heart attacks thereafter, says a report in TOI.
When Vididha was 45 days old, she vomited after her mother fed her and fell unconscious. Her mother said they shook her awake, but she again became unconscious.
Vididha was rushed to a local nursing home by her parents, who were were advised to take her to BJ Wadia Hospital in Mumbai, where she was diagnosed with a heart defect called transposition of the great arteries, and is being treated. Dr Biswa Panda, paediatric cardiac surgeon of Wadia Hospital, who operated on her on March 14, said Vididha heart's anatomy was opposite of a normal heart.
Following the complex surgery, her heart function improved, but her weak lungs didn't. And the oxygen concentration in her blood used to routinely drop to a third of the normal while carbon dioxide would jump up three times, added the report.
The doctor said she was in the ICU for 51 days after the surgery, and went into cardiac arrest stage six times due to this imbalance, adding that her heart once needed 15 minutes to be resuscitated. The hospital had to use a high-frequency oscillatory ventilator for to stabilise her lungs.
According to the TOI report, the cost of her treatment, which is 5 lakhs, is being paid by various donors of the hospital, as her parents Vishaka and Vinod Waghmare could barely manage Rs 25,000 for the bill.
Four-month-old Vididha isexpected to be discharged from the hospital in the next few days, added the report.
